Need to do a little research but i dont think current would be a problem. I
think if you use a 12v dc supply to drive the ir emitters (thru transistors)
you could series say 4 of them and then another  4 in series but the two
groups (of 4) in parallel with each other .The spec i have here on an ir led
states the forward voltage at 1.2v which means all eight could be in series
if a 12v dc supply is used .
