I had exactly the same problem also!  Win2K & Ooutlook2002.

It was mildly annoying but didn't happen every time so I ignored it.

(As an IT consultant I tend to fix other peoples problems and ignore my own!)

 

Now that you have brought it to my attention again I notice that it hasn't happened for a few weeks that I can recall.

Like Kevin I assume this was due to one of the patches I applied.

I assume everyone now has SP2 applied so while waiting for SP3 add the latest updates & hot fixes individually.

Go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and apply the updates recommended there (if you're feeling lucky!).

 

Then download and install the Microsoft Baseline Security Analyser - I advise everyone to do this - especially if you have an always on broadband connection!

This will check your PC for security vulnerabilities, recommend changes and point you to recent hot fixes you need.

This is a great tool and you will be surprised what it digs up!!

 

WARNING! - I accept no responsibility if your PC is unbootable after applying any of the recommended patches / fixes!!  :o)

This happened to me twice about 8 and 6 months ago after applying the critical updates recommended by Windows Update.  :o(

Took me a few hours to repair it without loosing my installed apps & data.

 

As the saying goes - If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it.

Conversely - there's no point shutting the gate after the horse has bolted...

PS.  If you don't already have it, download Ad-aware 5.81 from : http://www.lsfileserv.com/

Run this on a regular basis (weekly?) - this will scan your PC and remove all those annoying little programs that keep a track and spy on you as you surf the internet.

 

PPS!  Pop Up Stopper 2.8 (the free version) is good if you get annoyed with all those extra windows that open with adverts in them that you don't want to see..

Ben - exactly this happened to me about a month ago - not sure why but later it went away again so I can't help as to what fixed it - it seemed it was after a Microsoft Critical update was applied and I had assumed a later one fixed the problem. I assume you have the latest patches. I do get this 'stalling' happening occasionally in all sorts of situations now but I have assumed it's either due to memory or disk space issues. As I am about to rebuild the machine from scratch I haven't bothered but if you find anything let me know.

 

    BTW - I posted a message re a problem with Outlook now checking mail in background and the culprit is... INFUZOR - it sets up background retrieval of your email.

Hi all

I have just started to experience a problem with outlook and thought I

Recently when I click a link (URL) in an email it takes about 25 seconds
to respond, Outlook and IE (6.0.26) lock up and then after about 25 sec
the pages displays. This only started happening about 3 days ago, when
it started I archived off a load of Home Automation e-mails but that did
not fix it, my pst file is about 120 M.
