I contacted my insurer (Alliance & Leicester - arranged alongside the
mortgage), first by phone, and then followed it up with a letter due to:

1. Having a CD collection running into the 1000's,
2. A blinkin' expensive WS TV.

They confirmed that their "Collections" category (along with its exemptions)
did not cover my ... er ... collection of CD's - the category was meant more
for the "Works of Art"-type stuff and, as such, my CD's would be covered.
As for the TV, they were happy to modify my insurance cover upon seeing a
copy of the receipt.  And, just to be sure, whenever I install a new goodie
I take photo's and keep them stored at a separate location (work) - just in
case...

Never tried any other companies (though Amar's posting about the Halifax may
get me looking when the policy's up for renewal),

Tony

Guys,

I imagine we've all got a higher than average collections of
expensive toys. Equally I'm sure many of us have large CD and
DVD collections. Maybe even vinyl too.

How do you guys go about insuring your home contents?

Are there any insurers out there that look favourably on large(r)
CD/DVD collections and numerous toys of high value?

Rather than those that just treat you like an idiot for having more
than 30 CDs or just refuse to give a quote as it's 'too hard' or
whatever.

Stuart
