Hi,
Yup, I
have already installed one of these Staywell 31 (radio rather than
magnetic) Cat
flaps. It is not yet automated but it's on the list.
The
key collar triggers the send of an impulse to a small 6v DC motor that
pulls a
pin so that the flap may open inwards. When the key is no longer present
another
impulse is sent to push the pin back in place.
I
assume a motor is used instead of a solenoid for power consumption reasons,
as
it is designed to run off AA batteries.
This
only prevents unauthorised cat from entering. You can override the entry
exit by
using the normal tabbed wheel to allow
in
only with key
out
only
in
with key or out
no
access.
Currently training the cats to use the cat flap. Then I plan on the
time
of access etc, logged to a website/homseer. Then I will move onto
controlling
the access at times of the day.
Andy
So, has anyone
tried
to automate a cat flap? I know
you can get the
electronic ones that only allow your
cats in and out
through use of collars. What I want
to do is to
link a
catflap to HomeVision so that it
only allows
them in
and out during the day but
then only
allows
them in (not out) about an hour
before dusk or
around rush hour.
Any thoughts? I
was
thinking of whether the standard
electrical cat
flap
could be hacked to always allow
them in, but
only
allow out when the power was
connected -
anyone
who has one got any comments?
Cheers.
Bov!
