I don't think it is fair to compare new router prices to 2nd hand network card etc prices.
How much is a router 2nd hand at a fair?  Probably closer to the 35 qu= id you
think for the separate PC solution.

where??? where????  I was just using lee's $15 pc example for his 'pro= per'
firewall......

Another point is that if these ppl don't know a lot about pc's (which a lot=
of pc users dont) then they won't know where to find a computer fair, what<= BR> bits to buy, how to install them, get a linux distro etc etc.
A hardware router "just works" and ffs, we're talking about less = than a
hundred quid anyway, so not a great deal of savings to be had anyway!!

Okay, the 486 chip is silent, but the fan on it isn't, the fan on the PSU isn't, if there is a hard disk, that's not silent either, nor is a floppy drive......

Hey man - if you replace all the 150W(?) 486's out there running firewall software with 3W hardware routers, that's a lot of power you're saving!!!
