I don't think it is fair to compare new router prices to 2nd hand
network
card etc prices.
How much is a router 2nd hand at a fair? Probably closer to the 35
qu=
id you
think for the separate PC solution.

where??? where???? I was just using lee's $15 pc example for his
'pro=
per'
firewall......

Another point is that if these ppl don't know a lot about pc's (which a
lot=
of pc users dont) then they won't know where to find a computer fair,

bits to buy, how to install them, get a linux distro etc etc.
A hardware router "just works" and ffs, we're talking about less
=
than a
hundred quid anyway, so not a great deal of savings to be had anyway!!

Okay, the 486 chip is silent, but the fan on it isn't, the fan on the
PSU
isn't, if there is a hard disk, that's not silent either, nor is a
floppy
drive......

Hey man - if you replace all the 150W(?) 486's out there running
firewall
software with 3W hardware routers, that's a lot of power you're
saving!!!
