RE: A Question about X10.
Jason,
You have two options:
1: Replace the existing wall switches with X-10 switches (LW11)
I've used LW11s... the one downside is that you can't "dim to
black". You can only dim down to a "faint glow", and if you
send an "X-10 OFF", they then come back on at full power. The way
around this is:
2: Add din-rail modules back at the "fuse-box end" (these days,
called a "consumer unit"), and have momentary switches replace
your current wall switches. These need to be each wired back to the
consumer unit.
The problem with "2" is the traditional way to wire lighting in a
house is to put a ring all the way round, and have each light as a spur off
it. (OK - one ring per floor.) This _doesn't_ lend itself to the "each
wired back".
Regards,
Mark

Subject: [ukha_d] A Question about X10.
OK, now I have gone the easy route up until now with all my x10 bits
and
pieces, using the plug in modules..
I'm a programmer not a hardware guy. I can just about buzz something out.
So
I don't mind anyone giving a what might seem to them an over simplistic
answer.
How do I go about setting up whole house lighting? I have one strip light
in
the kitchen. The tv room has those 2 decorative 3 blub 60 watt efforts
the
gf likes. The front of the house has a secuirty light as does the side
and
back.
The rest of the lights are normal everyday house lights with a bayonet
rather than screw in setting.
What I would like to do is connect them all to x10.
So how do I / what do I install to control a normal light. Where do I
install it? I have a central fuse box full of little modules. Can I
install
something in there?
