RE: Re: BBC Win OnDodgy Licence...
Heres some more info about the proposed changes to Digital Analogue.
The main problem noted is that of bad reception, resulting in
un-reliable
picture quality. Most of the bids recommend changing transmission
mode from
64 QAM (2/3) to 16 QAM (3/4), which means less channels (24 rather than
36)
but more bandwidth. Also they mention power doubling trials (3db)
accross
all transmitter stations, and coverage equalistaion packages. The
idea is
that more people will be able to plug in and go, rather than trying to
get
their aerial upgraded.
The Consortium is committed to working with other multiplex service
licencees to develop the platform to offer an improved Electronic
Programme
Guide (EPG) and new enhanced and interactive services.
Basically this is all good news. We will have two pay-TV systems, Sky
&
NTL, which have more available bandwidth for more good quality
channels.
And a good quality free to air system BBC Digital, for people who only
want
to pay the license fee.
