Soundproofing a stud wall is not too difficult. If you remove the existing
plaster board and put in some sound deadening material (Rockwool will do
the job, although you can get specialist material) then replace the plaster
board and replaster. If plaster is not you forte, use Fermicell (sp?). All
you will need to do with this is fill the joints in. You can then
paint/paper directly to it. Fermicell is a structural plaster board and can
take heavy fixings, so not only do you get a quieter room, you can hand
more on the walls.
