Really low tech approach.....

A sealed vessel with outlet pipe connected, filled with water and
inverted
above fish tank with bottom of pipe at required water level.

Whilst the water is upto the required level nothing will happen, if the
level drops, air can enter the bottom of the pipe thereby allowing water
to
flow out.

Try it with a 2 litre coke bottle in the sink, if the neck of the bottle
is
touching the water, it stays as is, lift the bottle slightly and it
will
start to empty.

Hi All,

WIth the arrival of the warm weather I am once again greeted by the
problem of water evaporation from my tropical fish tank.

I'm trying to devise an auto-top up system, basic idea being to have a
water level sensor, and an undertank resevoir.

1) Water Level Sensor      - Easy, some form of
float switch

2) Resevoir - Either pumped, or the option I'm currently prefering, air
driven, basically take a sealable brewing barel, fill with water,
connect
air pump to top, use pump to push water out of resevoir.

Any thoughts / comments
