How to remote reboot a PC, according to the UKHA regulars :-)
1: Mark McCall
-- fires Pronto at HomeVision. Homevision sends X-10 message to Appliance
module. Mark would prefer that HomeVision output ports would trigger a
relay directly, but he didn't quite put in enough CAT5 to the right
places.
2: James Hoye
-- gets in car. James is willing to drive quite long distances to reboot
PCs. In fact, James will reboot PCs for virtually any member of the list if
required.
3: Ian Bird
-- built own PC rebooting board out of electronics components. Shortly
after the board was installed, he wrote it up, and put details on his
website.
4: Phil Harris
-- tried to build a PC rebooting board from Ian's circuit. Dropped
soldering iron, burnt a hole in carpet. Phil went out immediately, to
purchase small electrical appliance at discounted "bargain"
price, and had hold hidden by the time Jo got back.
5: Li Kwong
-- saw market need in the HA community for PC-rebooting device. Immediately
sourced a telnet-able power-supply-board from South Korea, imported 30, and
now sells on his site.
6: Paul Gordon
-- purchased a chrome PC-rebooting unit from a specialist electronic design
shop after 37 hours research on the internet. Paul installed the unit in
his bathroom.
7: Graham Howe
-- implemented a "which PC do you want to reboot" website using
ASP, to control multiple of Li's units. Graham intends to expand his site
to cope with other products, and already provides access from PCs or
ePods.
8: Quinten Uijdert
-- purchased a PC-rebooting device from Li, and immediately rack-mounted it
in a case from Maplins.
9: Tim Morris
-- drives as BMW.
10: Mark Harrison
-- placed a 3-year PC rebooting service contract with a large American
company who went into Chapter 11 three weeks later
