For some bizarre reason my phone stopped ringing when people called.
Or sometimes it would ring 3 times *after* they had hung up on me.

After some muttering and fiddling it turned out to be the cable from
the phone socket to my old 56k analogue modem! Replaced it, works fine
now.

I have no idea how this lead I've been using for years now suddenly
failed whilst in use. I must have had a broken wire in it that the
folding back and forth eventually broke.
