Title: Message
Steve - I seem to remember reading somewhere that there were issues with have scripts that take a long time to run, not sure what the effect would be on other scripts that would run.........

I think it would be possible to do the COM port requirement - HS will run VBScripts but usually they're set to timeout after 30 seconds. There's an option you can change to allow a script to run indefinitely, so if you can do what you need in VBScript, you can do it in HomeSeer.

As an aside, with requirements like this I've tended to do it with standalone VB applicastions rather than VBScript. I've found HS to lend itself very well to this kind of thing.

Ian, would be worth you cross posting this message on the Homeseer message board - http://homeseer.infopop.net/3/OpenTopic , it is a very active board, and people there will be able to give a far more complete insight than I have below.

>>Is it possible to add a script to talk with some homebrew rf linked equipment ?

I can't see why it wouldn't be possible using the Active-X control they provide

>Is it possible to add a script to listen and sent data on a com port for data from various digital and analogue cards I have. This needs to be monitored all the time not just on an event.

I don't think this is possible, although you could write a program to do this and get it to launch hsc.exe which is a command line option for HomeSeer which would then allow you to launch a HomeSeer event.

>Is caller id standard ? Is it possible to program it to announce the callers name rather than the telephone number ?

Yes, via an add in called HomeSeer phone.

>Is it possible to add a script to download i.e. weather data and announce it ?

Yes, there are many of these UK and US centric. Personally I use scripts for BBC weather, Ski resort info, Connex trains and TV listings.

>Any other comments on the system, How easy is it program ? etc

Very easy to start to use, scripting becomes very powerful using VB Script and best of all support for HomeSeer is very very good.

Hope this all helps,

Mark
