Surely if u do a wall plate version, then the regulations etc rear their ugly heads again because the PSU would have to be built into the units??

I did consider building the mains power into the units but it opens up reams of regulations that have to be dealt with with regard to safety etc. I currently dont have the resources or time to get into that at the moment.

 

Wall mounted units have been considered and may well materialise at some point, but, having a fixed faceplate for AV detracts from the flexibility of a structured wiring system.

 

STOP PRESS : Tim considers installing CAT5 and KAT5 :-)

 

I may get you to try a set to see if they meet your standards for AV kit and if they do the Wall Plate versions may see the light of day.

A couple of things spring to mind.

 

Is it possible to engineer the units with a power supply on the PCB? That’s what John Sim does with his RGB to SVideo converter, and it makes the thing much neater (I HATE wall worts!)

 

Would it be possible to build them so they will fit into a double wall box – again that smacks of a far neater installation – I realise that would restrict portability, but certainly in my case (small house) I would have one behind the telly in the bedroom and one behind the Sky box.

 

Only suggestions, you can do with them what you will, but both of these would actually persuade me to put at least one run of CAT5 into my new house J
