Did you find an explanation to this, as currently my ATI VCD player mutes the sound output on my win2k pro box, between 1-7 seconds after hitting the play button
if i pause, or drag the filmposition bar, the sound returns, but then only for a random number of seconds between 1-7.
 
Strange eh!
 
Bye bye VCD's for me, all was working perfectly before i went on a two week holiday, now it's crap.

I have tried three cards all different Creative cards and the same happens !

Are you using a Creative 5.1 Platinum series??  If so the XP drivers dont work right.  Get the update >from
