My
Camera came with the DV IN disabled - I was (as you say) able to activate
it
with software from the Net.
The
Digital8 camera my mate brought back from the States last week has DV IN
ENABLED
on it despite someone posting here it wouldn't. I presume the UK
version
is knobbled though.

firewire on a camcorder can be used for INPUT TO the camera (as opposed
to
output from it), then the camera is classed by Brussels as a
videorecorder,
and is charged duty at a much higher rate.
