I have to say that personally I think there's a lot of paranoia on here
about 12 transformers as I haven't had a 12v transformer (other than one
which was specified as non-dimmable) not work on an LD11 (or more
specifically cause an LD11 not to work).
I have more trouble from PC PSUs! Today I got up and my lights didn't
come on as I was walking into my computer room plus the outside light
was still on. I guess we'd had a power glitch last night which caused my
Win XP machine to power up (it starts up on having power applied) and
once that was running then a chunk of my house goes X10 deaf!
The general concensus is that 240v is the best way to go if you can
(however I couldn't get 8 degree 240v halogens so I had to go 12v). Next
best try wirewound transformers as they can't introduce switching noise
and then go for electronic *DIMMABLE* transformers ... Some people seem
to have had problems with X10 and electronic transformers - I haven't -
but then again I have problems with PC PSUs and X10 which others don't!
