Phil,
I
had
a 2000C which packed up (1 month out of warranty) the problem was with the
plungers which pressurise the ink cartridges, I gather it was a design
fault.
I
looked around and and replaced it with 2200, which is a better printer, you
can
only use the black cart's from the 2000c the colour ones are different as
are
the print heads ;-(
You
will find the duplexing better on the 2200, although manual, there is a LCD
display which tells you what to do and you just press a button on the
printer to
resume.

My
beloved HP2000C workhorse seems to have gone titsup.com last night so I
need
to start looking round for a decent replacement printer.
Ideally
another
2000C or 2500C would be great (as I have small stocks of spare consumables
at
£30 an ink cart!) so if anyone on the list knows where there is one going
(they'll be secondhand now of course as they've been discontinued for a
couple
of years) then could they give me a shout?
Alternatively does anyone have any suggestions for a suitable
replacement? My criteria are:
1)
Decent paper handling. Should store the paper flat and supported so it
doesn't
"sag" or get dusty and should ideally hold 150 sheets or
more.
2)
Separate ink carts for the 4 colours. I'm not looking for a photo printer
as I
have an Epson 1290 for that - this means I'm not looking for a printer
which
has 5 or 6 "colour" carts in addition to black ... just the usual
CMY.
3)
Parallel I/F - I hang the printer off a network print server so a parallel
I/F
is a must however I guess I could hook it via USB to my server and just
share
it if necessary.
4)
Automatic duplexing would be usefull.
So
far I've been looking at the HP 2200 and 1700 series - the 2200 doesn't
support automatic duplexing though and the 1700 is an A3 printer (which I
rarely need).
Colour lasers are to big/expensive for what I need and I would guess
for a decent 2200 series (probably a 2250) or for a 1700D I'd be looking at
about £400 so that's the kind of ballpark ... if anyone has any suggestions
then I'd love to hear 'em.
Phil
