The point of having a PC or SBC or that this has a sound card.  I don't want the server playing the mp3 - just serving them to the machine that would be playing them.

My original idea was to have something like a DDAR/Rio to play tunes from the server - then taking this one step further you could have a small; fan-less SBC with a sound card playing the REMOTE servers tunes into say your home audio system.

If I wanted an interface on my server to play mp3's I would simply use winamp or one of the many freely available mp3 players, and it would do exactly what you suggest.

Surely would it not be possible to rig some sort of interface that would work on an lcd panel a couple of micro switches for Play, Next, Stop etc. The display would show what was playing and it would then be connected to a web server to control the audio, or am I just dreaming???????
