Encouraged by the feedback on this list that wireless LAN's aren't
just
flaky, I have done some digging around...
It
seems the Linksys WAP11 going to sleep is quite a common problem
(unless
you talk to Linksys support) and it supposed to be fixed in
firmware
14h3. I would have updated my firmware had I realised there was a newer
version
but if you look at the download page on the Linksys site the latest
firmware is
at the bottom of the page and I didn't think to look there (I know, I
know!)
Note:
It is not possible to use the SNMP config utility after upgrading to 14h3.
The
only problem with that is you wont be able to use a Mac address filtering
as
that is not configurable using USB.
I've
not had the update installed that long, but I should know tomorrow if it
*really* fixes the sleep problem.
A
big
thank you to Vince for the offer a WLAN card to assist with troubleshooting
- *hopefully* I won't need it now :-)
Cheers,
Justin.

I don't think your card is playing up, mine is
also an Orinoco Silver, I don't have WEP enabled but still have the same
problem, let me know if you find a cure.
Thanks

I'm not using WEP either. I prefer the idea of
hard coded MAC address access (and I couldn't get WEP to work anyway
:-))
Maybe I need to buy another PCMCIA card to
figure out if its the AP or Orinoco playing up.
Cheers,
Justin.
