Kenneth,
Sorry if I've got the wrong end of the stick, but is Home Control
Manager the software that tends to come bundled with the CM12U?
If it is, then yes, it's certainly suitable for "a simple HA
setup".
Indeed, I ran it for several months, and for things like "turn the
lights on and off when I'm on holiday to make the house look occupied"
and "turn the light in my bedroom on at 6:30am on weekdays" it's
great.
I now have a Homevision, but that's more because I liked the concept and
thought I'd enjoy fiddling, rather than because I really needed the
extra power it offers ;@)
To be fair on HV, now I've got it, I wouldn't be without it - in my
(pre-baby) situation (money not a problem, time a problem!) I find that
the great advantage that HV has is that it's much quicker to get set up
to do complex stuff... Also, the integration with the Pronto (and the
associated triggering of stuff both by, and using, IR is cool.)

Guys,
I know that some of you have probably used this combination per the
header, can you tell me if it's any good for a simple HA setup?
It's for a relative that wants simple control of a few lights in the
home for security as he works away from home and I remember having a
play with the software a while ago but the CM12 seemed not to follow the
times that I had inputted to the software. I could use Homeseer, of
which I also have no experience at all, but cost is also a factor and
shelling out for Homseer right now is not on the cards! I have ever used
is HV for HA control so I'm a bit naive with this method of control.
Tips and tricks gratefully received.
