RE: IRDA Extenders

the "transmitter" in the OFA6 will be a PIC chip or similar
microcontroller
connected to some high power LED's.

Transmission of IRDA is not a problem, with sufficient IR LED's and a VERY
big battery you could create a 1kW IRDA transmitter and toast anything in
front of it.

The problem is finding a receiver that will work at greater than 1-2
metres.
If someone could disassemble an IRDA box and find out what the receiver was
then I could try to source one and see if I could get more reliable
results.

How much is a OFA6, worth butchering to see what transmitter they use,
assuming it transmits IRDA over long range?
