They might have a "get out" clause on the site which is usually
to
account for errors in publication. Regardless of site terms, your
memory of "invitiation to treat" is accurate and a retailer can
refuse to sell at a displayed price.

Mistakes are not penalised under law, but fraudulent pricing (for
example using your example of the 1p product in the window but adding
that there is no intent to sell anything at that price) is illegal.

Often retailers will honour a price displayed by mistake in a gesture
of good faith, but they are not legally required to do so.
