Correct guess.

In fact you ping ALL house codes, Hail request for B (or others) gives a
hail ack for A.
This was done to find out used house codes at the "neighbours" so
you
could choose an unused one (not to fool around with their stuff...).

What circuit will you use to transmit the status back or do you use a 2 way
interface?
