How's this for a barking mad bit of lateral thinking?

Put a light sensor in the vicinity of the seat.

1. PIR detects movement and turns light on.
2. Timer started
3. Mark sits down for a 3 hour nap at his desk
4. Light sensor goes from light->dark even though room is lit.
5. Timer expires. If light sensor is dark - reset timer; if light
sensor is light room is empty - turn off light.

Major issue is positioning light sensor adequately. It doesn't have
to be directly fixed to the chair - as long as it is in a shadow
(perhaps on the floor in the vicinity of the desk?)
