It's random. Sometimes you get side ads, which compress the posting
horizontally. Then around every 4 posts you get the purple circle
full screen effort. In addition, as others have commented, the ads
are generally a pretty poor match for the target audience (e.g.
lipstick).
Perhaps it's worth contacting Yahoo! about this to give them some
feedback - and perhaps see if they are amenable to modifying the
mechanism - before embarking on anything drastic?
