Maybe not, if it's well written.
There are some _good_ versions of Linux around that boot, immediately
create a RAM disk, and copy their selves into that. You can get a
working Linux kernel, network drivers, and a rudimentary firewall onto a
floppy(!) so even uncompressed it should run from RAM on a modern PC.

Was listening to my favourite Net radio station the other night
(www.sunspotradio.com) and they mentioned "Demo Linux" (the
conspiracy
theorists amongst us will notice with the simple addition of the letter
"N"
that becomes Demon Linux!).
Anyway, it's an ISO that when downloaded and burnt allows you to boot
off
the CD and play with Linux without it ever going near your hard drive
(and
interfering with your glorious MS OS). It's obviously going to be a bit
slow running from CD, but might be of interest for those that want a
play
with the "Demon" :)
