OK
One final question then.
How do I ensure that all of the wires match up.
I am now intending to punch down the CAT5 at the BT socket end as well
as the patch panel end, but what pins on the BT end should match the
pins on the patch panel end?
Regards
ben

You could, not neat, and not very intuitive for the next occupier
either!!!
Why not wire to your patch panel using an extension kit? and then cut
the BT socket off and wire this into your patch panel?
e.g.

Tele
phone_Accessories_1/index.html
Still messy though, Its dead easy to wire the cabling into the rear of
the BT master socket, as that's what its for - If you are punching
cables on your patch panel you may as well punch the cables on your BT
master socket too. - The BT master socket is in two pieces, the
connection in from BT and a removable face plate, you are allowed to
connect onto the rear of the faceplate, and when you remove this
faceplate you'll see that it disconnects the household circuits from BTs
connection, so that you can work on them

Hi
To save messing about with the back of the BT socket could I used
another of the TLC inserts and then wire into it with a cable with BT
plug to BT plug?

>What is the best way to do the interface between CAT5 and the BT master
socket
Wire the cable into the back of the faceplate. You need to connect 3-4
of the cables Normally 2,3,4,5 on the bt socket. (You can get away with
less, but I find it easier to remember if I connect all 4!!)
>and also CAT5 and a telephone will the inserts from TLC do?
Yeap, you only need to use the extension ones, or you could use ordinary
extension sockets (if you don't think you'll change them from voice).
