If you leave it set up as it comes out of the box (contrast and brightness set ridiculously high) then the specs suggest around 10 years of normal use. I’ve had mine a year, and calibrated it with video essentials on day one. I re-check it once a quarter and haven’t had to alter any of the settings. The limitation in life refers to a gradual reduction in maximum brightness to 70% of the original value. As I’ve got it set down to about 50% I’m sure it will last at least 10 years. The other advantage of setting it lower is that there is less likelihood of burn-in (though in any event I wouldn’t recommend using a plasma full time as a PC monitor).

How long does a plasma screen last, and what happens with old age? Hopefully longer than a projector lamp... but as long as a TV tube?

Indeed. I'd rather spend that Plasma kind of money on a proper
size front projection setup ! I don't see the point of spending that
kind of wonga on an extra 10 inches over my CRT telly.
