RE: was Pronto now NXT speakers

Wow lots of questions :-)

>do you have any manuals in .pdf or some format that can be posted?

- No, there is not alot of info a couple of pages max... but I'll scan it tonight and send to you if you'd like.

>How thick they are exactly, without frame?

about an inch.

>Do they have glass, so you put picture behind the glass, or you cannot put glass?

No glass with them, I was going to try putting some in the panel, but I'm not sure what it would do to the sound?

Bear in mind they have a bass bin with them, this is a passive device, so the input >from speakers.

I have used a run of speaker wire from the lounge, up under the floorboards into the dining room, and back down the walls, used approx a lot of cable (twice).

Wharfedale actually recommend placing them on opposing walls, as the sound they produce is not directionable.

Woah, great news.
If I knew that before, it would be at my place long ago.
But now they are much cheaper so I don't feel too sorry.
I need to find a way to send a signal from my amp in living room, to my bedroom.
I have Sony STR DB1070 amp and it seems to have 2 amps in one.
One is Dolby Digital 6.1 and the other just stereo, but should be fine for bedroom.
Now, I can watch DVD in living room, while listening radio in bedroom, from the same amp.

Daniel, do you have any manuals in .pdf or some format that can be posted?
How thick they are exactly, without frame?
Do they have glass, so you put picture behind the glass, or you cannot put glass?

I heard that they are making ceiling panels as well. Waves generated with these speakers are propagating much better than the ones from "normal" speakers, so you need less speakers for covering public places (like railway stations etc.). Also they are not so directional as normal ones, so it's harder to find where the sound is coming from (I hope that Daniel can confirm this) so positioning these speakers is not so vital like the normal ones in home cinema setup.
There were even plans to put them in laptop screens...

If there are smaller versions, they can be ideal for puting them around the house, because you can put them anywhere in plasterboard. Conventional ones are much deeper and you get less options for positioning.

Cheers,
Nik

The frame has no function...

They are simply screwed on, the manual talks about using the panels with or without the frames..

I see no reason why you couldn't have different frames made to fit the panels.

My brother in law has removed the decals, and re-stained the frames for his loudpanels.

Didn't know that frames can be detached and painted. It's a piece of Hi-Fi and I'm not sure if they are glued or something. Maybe Daniel can tell me more? I couldn't touch them in demo room, when I took a look at them. Nobody mentioned detaching and repainting frames in any of the reviews. I don't know if that would affect the sound quality?
Also, original frames have a rather big logo on them, which looks silly on the picture frame.
Daniel, is it possible to remove original frame and put custom one, or that frame has some function?

Nikola

why not get the pine framed speakers and paint or stain the frames to your choice?

I'm looking at them since they were £300 and they are really cool. I listened them in demo room and the sound was really good. They've got excellent marks in What Hi-fi, I think Editor's choice.
So, I wanted to install them in my bedroom and hang on the wall, but SWMBO doesn't like any of the frames on offer (black or pine).
And that's the reason, why they are still in the shop. Battle continues...
You can put any picture in frames, without degrading sound. Technology is developed in army for neutralizing sound inside tanks, but now they decided to get some money bask from the investment in research.
Cheers,
Nik

Daniel,
Can you post some photos, please?

The HiFI purists will kill me for this... :-)

I have some Wharfedale Loudpanels in my dining room, and for "background"
type music they are fantastic, i.e. listening when entertaining....

They answered all my criteria for a discrete music source, and guests
usually ask, where the music is coming from!!

If you think about what they are and for the money you can buy them for,
they are a real bargain.. (under 80 from Richer sounds at the moment).

The biggest issue with them is making them look discrete, I installed the
cabling before the room was replastered.

As always you pays your money and takes your choice, Hifi is a really
personal thing, and it is down to each individuals taste!

HTH

Daniel
