Hi
Steve,
Any
real reason why you want to go 1U or 2U ?
Almost
any desktop will fit a 3U (5.25") or mini/midi tower laid on its side
will
fit a 4U (7")
Remove
the plastic front, remove the lid and fit in the chassis of the 19" case.
Cut
the appropriate drive slots in the front panel and you have a rack mount
case.
No need to source any obscure/expensive server type boards as any normal PC
cards will fit your case. Want a faster server - cheap mobo change and its
done.
Need specialised soundcard or video card - standard PC sound/graphics card.
You
also wont be limited to only 1 or 2 expansion cards as you would with
risers.
Just
my view on how I would do it.
You
can get a 3U or 4U case for about 40 quid and transfer any old PC into
it.
Hope
that helps
Keith

[ukha_d] Rack hardware
I am thinking of hacking a pc into elcheapo 1u
or
2u server. Using a bare rack mount case. Any help with suppliers for cases,
riser cards etc ?
Steve.
