I have just started from scratch by re-downloading the required files from the web JIC mine are corrupted in some way although this would not explain why Stuart Wyte's copy would not work.

I have got everything unplugged already so will in stall the files just downloaded and keep everything crossed.

And to answer your question, yes I have upgraded as stated by you and in the Readme.txt file, thanks anyway, actually I had already rechecked my settings to be on the safe side.

are you sure you are putting the right parameters into the tarmerge program? Try the following steps......

you need to unzip the two files "tarMerge.zip" and "receiver_patch.zip" you should now have two files unzipped files called "tarMerge.exe" and "receiver_patch.arf"

Now make sure your Audio Receiver Manager Software is stopped by right clicking it and confirming that you want to stop it.

Now run Tarmerge.exe by double clicking it in explorer and fill in the 3 boxes (it is probably easiest to use the browse buttons to fill the first two and to browse only to the DIRECTORY for the Destination tar-file and then type in the last bit (ie. browse to "C:\Program Files\Audio Receiver\" and then type in  "receiver_new.arf" on the end of the line

So it should look something like the following......

  Original tar-file      : C:\Program Files\Audio Receiver\receiver.arf
  "Patch" tar-file       : C:\My Documents\DDAR\receiver_patch.arf
  Destination tar-file : C:\Program Files\Audio Receiver\receiver_new.arf

Note these are the directories I use yours may be different.

Now click on "Create patched tar-file" which will create the receiver_new.arf file
Nearly there now rename your original  receiver.arf to receiver_old.arf then  rename receiver_new.arf to receiver.arf (this file is 7mb in my case but may be different)

Just to be safe power off your ddar (by unplugging it from the mains) and reboot your PC then load the audio manager software and power on your ddar.

Give the DDAR a good go at loading and hopefully all will work.

Hope this helps.

Regards
Mick

tell me to shut up if you have heard all this before but I have just done this hack so my experiences might help.

I downloaded the 7mb arf file remaned etc and tried rebooting the PC and the DDAR in every combination I could think of  none of them worked at all I could get the Manager SSOftware to see the DDAR but the DDAR just hung there initialising.

Eventually I went back to a known working copy of receiver.arf (4mb so it must have had the old display server patch on it) I got that working with the DDARs and then patched it with the merge thingy. This gave me a file which looks identical in size to the one I downloaded but it works!

When you have fully powered off the DDAR for a good few minutes switch it back on and when it says initialising take the meerkats for a walk or something...the load seemed to take a long time.

Also reboot the PC after you have done the patch...you shouldnt need to but it may be that that was what solved my problems.

I think you will get the grey box with the old display servber patch as well so seeing that may not mean you have the new patch working.

Couple of questions you may have answered earlier but which might clear things up.........

1. Does your DDAR initialise properly or does it jsut sit there like a lemon?

2. Does the Audio software on your PC see the ddar as a Unit?

3. Can you ping the DDAR from your PC.. probably teaching my maters mater to suck avian unborn embryos but to ping it you can type ping NNN.NNN.NNN.NNN in the run box on win 98 ME etc

Hope this helps some but it probably wont!

Cheers
Mick
