I am currently playing with Geovisions' Multicam digital surveillance card. It is an amazingly comprehensive system really but does have a few failings too. I am using a GV-600 model that is available in 4/8/16 input versions and incorporates motion detection triggering and recording on selected/all channels simultaneously. There is a higher spec (full frame rate) version as well.

Although the card is not cheap (£300+ depending on no of inputs) it seems to be the best value for money for the features. Actually the 4/8/16 input cards are all the same with a dongle enabling the extra inputs.

    The plus features:

            Price vs. Features
Reasonable frame rate recording, dependent on # channels triggered.
Software supplied - superb - multiplex views, motion sensing with area masking, scheduling, recording, remote monitoring (network / modem) either standard web browser or custom full featured app, remote alarm reporting (inc telephone) and remote video recording. Multi site monitoring etc etc.

    The negatives:

Poor response re support from UK supplier (product knowledge)
Manufacturer (Taiwanese) also poor response / ignores emails
Upgrades despite only being dongles are not possible !
No developer access to software e.g. COM control etc to integrate with say HV or HS, also makes including video in custom web pages difficult.e.g. CWI / AWI
**No hardware triggers or alarm contact outputs available - (actually there is but as an option that costs some £500 extra). You must use the motion detection.
            No audio recording
The pan/tilt/zoom implementation is non standard and requires extra hardware (£500 as above)

I also considered ATM's VideoStar product - the main issues I saw were that you could only record one channel at a time, there was no motion detection but there were hardware triggers e.g. PIR.  The product is now discontinued but an EX (from memory) integrated 8 port Unix based recorder is their offering at £2K+ and 1 fps    :(

I am considering writing a full review - would people be interested, e.g. Mark for your site ?

I’m going to be setting up an intranet (possibly with a connection to the internet, possibly not) in the new house for control of all of the HA stuff using the iPAQ among other things. The house has a number of video cameras, and I’d like to be able to include live feeds from the cameras on the web site.

How do you manage feeding more than one camera into a single video capture card (I was thinking of replacing my Radeon 8500 with a Radeon 8500DV)?

Tim.
