Hi,
I
use
ICS for ADSL modem sharing on my network and works fine. When you start
ICS, it
becomes small DHCP server and DNS server with no options to
configure.
It
automatically uses 192.168.0.1 as IP address for machine with modem and
puts
255.255.255.0 as a subnet mask.
You
have no flexibility, but it works. Therefore MS doesn't recommend using it
on
domain controller, where you usually put proper DHCP server and DNS
server.
However, I made it working on domain controller fine as
well.
I
use
ZoneAlarm as firewall and it works without problems.
When
you need to put other DNS entries (like your ddar.receiver) with ICS, you
can
put them in hosts file on workstations.
Cheers,
Nik
Hi All
After
trying
to get my DNS, DHCP and NAT sorted out I have wasted a perfectly good
Saterday. I managed to het my DHCP server up and running properly
(now I can type http://DDAR.receiver.html and get
the
display server) but the rest is just a mind field. I have
downloaded
tons of How-to documents off the net on DNS and NAT but still can't do
what I want.
All I want to do is let the other computers on the
network
use the servers' modem to connect to the internet. I think I must
have done something right as when I used to ping an ip I used to get
host
unknown whereas now I get "host unreachable" (I hope this is a good
thing).
Anyway since most of the people on this list have more
than
1 pc and most are using the servers modem/dialup/broadband to surf the
net
from other pcs, I am hoping someone on this list can save me from
wasted Sunday.
So if anyone has the faintest idea or even a
suggestion (no matter how silly it seems) please throw it in my
direction.
Cheers Pedro
