Hi Daniel

you shouldnt have any problems as MIDI is a balanced signal. The power for the opto-isolator is fed from and returned to the device sending the data. It is basically a current loop. There should be no problems using it over CAT5 whatsoever.

Subject: [ukha_d] OT: MIDI over CAT5?

Hi all

Not sure if this will work, as I don't know what the limitation on Midi
signalling is.

We have a Electric Piano that SWMBO would like to connect up to a PC via
MIDI

The PC is in Node0 and the Piano is in the Lounge, right beside 2
datapoints....
(only about 20 foot apart)

Can Midi be run over Cat5?

Daniel
