You could try, and there is lots of software which will do it, but the IR
is
probably not strong enough.  I'm sure I've seen web sites which tell you
how
to upgrade the IR, but I don't have links.

Try the software with your current one to see if it has enough power first.
If it does, you can invest in another.  I'd be surprised if it has enough
power though, my IIIe only did about 40cm.
