Couldnt possibly comment on that  :-)

Microchip have a development kit called PICDEM.net which uses a 16F877 and
some code from IOSoft www.iosoft.co.uk called ChipWeb

I looked at that but the software required a £700 licence for use in
commercial applications, the Siteplayer stuff, from what I can see, is free
with the module.

Need to investigate it further but I do like the thought of Ethernet
control
as well as IR and Serial (might be RS232 or RS485)

I agree it does look very useful for small control requirements, perhaps
