I think, from the pictures various ppl have painted here that a lot of it
_can_ be worthwhile, the problem is that you need to rewire your whole
house, bung in a shed load of DIN rail modules, get a Pronto-alike,
IR->X10
RF and X10 RF->X10 signaller, dawn to dusk controller, HV or similar,
PIR's,
Cameras etc etc in order to demonstrate how worthwhile it is :-(

This goes against the norm of say, get a DVD player, show how great it is,
wait a while until SWMBO is used to it, explain that it would be so much
better on a 32" WS/50" Plasma/6ft projection system, get that,
talk AC-3
into the equation etc etc.....

In short, it's big bang or damp squib :(

Surely though Ian, you won't need a house sitter, because your fully
automated house gives the appearance of being occupied all the time, the
cameras at the front & back door post images of approacing ppl to a
website
you can monitor remotely, the alarm will ring you if anyone breaks in......
