I'd say there's very little significant difference these days.  I don't
think you'd find one that much quicker than the other.  It's probably
more about whether you like the distribution, whether you're used
to using one flavour of unix over another and so on.

If you don't want to worry about anything and just need to install
binaries for the programs you need, then Linux might be a better bet.
If you're happy to build packages from source, either would be suitable.
