Hack it out Paul, you know that eventually you're going to have to do
it, so it might as well be sooner rather than later. The *only* time
I am re-using existing wiring is where the wire is buried deep inside
the wall/ceiling and I can get at both ends of the wire. In those
circumstances I am cutting the existing wire and connecting my new
wire to it, leaving the shortest amount possible of the existing wire
and definitely NOT leaving that wire connected to anything else.
