What's the REAL story with LD11's and heat?

So... I'm just about to start wiring up 38 LD11's in shed loads of
12 way consumer units. LD11 instructions state to keep 2cm clear
either side for cooling. If I do that I need a load more consumer
units :(  A number of people say fit two together and leave a gap
(one position?).

How many can you really fit in a single box and what make of unit is
it? Also, any problems encountered with heat?
