Take a look at the end credits and they specify the hardware used for making the film including software components.  All animation was completed on SGI with Sun kit in the render farm.  AFAIK thats *real* unix ;-)

I suppose you could say that it was all done on Unix as Mac OS X is *nix based. Do you really think with Steve Jobs' involvement with Pixar there wouldn't be at least one Apple there? :-)
 
The most amazing part of the animation was when Sully was lying face down in the snow ... the movement of the hairs was stunning.
 
Go and see it now. Right now. And if you do, there are two sets of outtakes at the end so remember to stay for all of them!
