I would use an aerial anyway, myself.  There are a number of websites
showing you how to make an aerial quite simply for not much money.  You
could then access your Internet connection from the pub :-)

For those interested in wireless networking, and extending ranges, take a
look at http://consume.net - the mailing
lists are flame fests at the moment
with lots of bickering between techies, but when a newbie asks a question,
people rally round to help.
