RE: FM aerial over Cat5?
Paul,
Cat5 does not have the correct properties for use as a "Proper"
aerial cable
(i.e. its not a screened low loss cable), however as an aerial is
nothing
more than a piece of metal (tuned to a particlar frequency band) you
may
find that Cat 5 works fine - in fact the cat5 will become an aerial in
its
own right. This is the only drawback, as it could cause you interference.
I once used a long piece of copper cable strung across the front of the
house, for a crystal radio, you could also connect it to the central
heating
pipes, that works well too :-)
Give it a go, and see what happens, it will not give you the same results
as
coax, but If you live in an area with reasonable reception, you'll
probably
find it an improvement on no aerial.
I have found that generally any cable can give an improvement to a
radios
reception!
Regards
Daniel

Subject: [ukha_d] FM aerial over Cat5?
Anyone tried linking to an FM aerial via Cat5? Would it introduce too
much noise/interference?
I thought I'd ask before trying!
Paul.
