Appliance Switch for controlling the Heating ??

My central heating controls have a fused switch in between them and the
electricity. Is it ok to replace that with an appliance switch or do I
have
to put the appliance switch between the fused switch and the controls?

When I say is it ok to replace it I mean is it ok to get an electrician
to
replace it (Electricity, scary stuff :-))
