You're probably right. I don't know a lot about the physical side of
this sort of thing, which is why I put "I believe". I've probably
been
doing the wrong thing for years. On the other hand, it worked, but I
have no idea if the quality would have been better doing it your way. I
wasn't expecting great quality off tape anyway, and it seemed pretty
good.
The only other thing about doing it my way is simplicity. I simply put a
switch on the line out from the amplifier, so I could choose to send the
signal either to the tape deck or to the soundcard. Then all I had to do
was switch the switch to send the signal to the soundcard, whether I was
ripping vinyl or tape.
