Another retailer just told me that the Sony drive has been recalled due
to problems. He reckons they'll bring out a new model!

I certainly haven't heard that tale! I do know that demand outstrips
the
supply as things stand and that Sony simply cannot keep up with the
orders for this drive, sounds like horse manure to me.
