Basically it takes an interlaced picture and with its magic tricks
turns
it into a progressive image to the display. Neat, reasonably cheap (on
Ebay, from the US as they're half what they are here!) and does the job
rather well.
In all honesty though, don't look for a *huge* leap in quality, it's
not
happening from any progressive source as it's not a magic "cure
all
ills" for everything IMHO. It does sort out a lot of images, makes
the=
m
smoother and flow better but there can be lip-synch problems with
progressive due to the processing time taken by the device, so beware!
For the most part the lip-synch can be solved by messing with the
centre
delay but not always, particularly from a crappy disc.
All in all, it does improve thing generally though but I would have to
agree with the link posted earlier that progressive is not all it's
hyped up to be really and, in many cases not needed or wanted. Think of
it more as a subtle enhancement and you're on the right track.
It has sold a shitload of new upmarket DVD players though and is one
way
to get you to pay =A3700 or more for a player whose guts are worth
=A3100!<=
