>Time for some basic questions (Sorry!).

hey, you gotta ask :)

>My mind has been wandering on the idea of ripping some DVD's to hard
>drive. Is there a format that is relatively lossless?

well, consider that DVDs are already in MPEG, a lossy format, but I know
what you mean. You can simply rip the DVD to hard drive, and perform no
further action. Some players can play from a folder containing the ripped
DVD.

>What size is a DVD movie (Without all the extra bits.)?

Varies. Starship Troopers was 5.2Gb, Heathers came in at 4.2Gb, LOTR SE was
a rather chunky 6.5Gb Average is about 5Gb

>Can you then replay picture via PC but audio as digi out to the AV Amp?

Down to your soundcard, and the playback software you use. Short answer,
yes, but it's a little flakey.

Ian.

Many thanks
