Intel 1000 pro mt card, available all over the place. =A335-40ish a few
months back.

Nice enough card.

I have 2 linked between my main server and my main editing machine.

The server is raided up to the gills in another room, running the
security and bits and pieces.

The editing machine is on my desk. Just saves listening to the noise of
two machines and x hard drives.

I seem to remember a few issues with getting near what should be
possible in terms of transfer rate.
I think the problem is the actual pci bus and what else is running on
the server.  The server's due to be upgraded soonish to something with= a
little bit more headroom and that should sort it out. The dual processor amd's look good for this.. checkout www.2cpu.com forums, a lot of
gigabit users over there.

Also, on intels roadmap is a chipset with a dedicated gigabit bus
running at 2.1g? That is, it has it's own bus.. That is a while away

I finally settled a while ago for what its currently working at, which
was 2.5 times the speed of the old 100 base.

A switch would be nice though..... I couldn't find a reasonable price
one at the time, so I'll checkout what you guys have posted on that.
