You will probably be charged the following:

- The price of the goods (obviously)
- The price of the shipping (obviously)

- Import duty on BOTH of the above (yes - you pay import duty on shipping c= osts)

- VAT on the WHOLE SUM including the import duty

- A processing fee of, probably =A310.

Depending on the nature of the goods, the rate of import duty could be betw= een (I think) 2% and 20%.

You will probably find that for goods of value $55, you could end up paying= $100-110.

The Customs and Excise helpline will be able to advise on what rate is char= geable.

If the goods were a gift of no monetary value, then you shouldn't be charge= d. However, if you claim they are a gift, and C&E subsequently discover= they weren't, they have draconian powers.

Personally, I end up paying the taxes, and cursing the name of Gordon Brown= :-)
